The Gastroenterology Department is a branch of science that deals with diseases of the digestive system, starting from the mouth and covering esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, biliary tract and pancreas.
Usually, the endoscopic methods are used for the diagnosis of diseases. Among these endoscopic methods, gastroscopy is used for the stomach and colonoscopy is used for the large intestine. In addition, Endoscopic Retrogard Cholangio-Pancreatography (ERCP), used to examine the biliary tract, is used as an important treatment method. These diagnostic methods are currently applied using a camera system. Besides, Ultrasound, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) and Endosonography can be used; and in vitro tests such as blood and stool test, stool elastase measurement may also be requested.
