Afşin
Afşin is a district of Kahramanmaraş province. In 1572, Efsus, which came under the sovereignty of the Ottoman Empire, became the district center in 1944 with the law dated 02.08.1944 and numbered 4642 and was named Afşin. The population of the district together with the center, towns and villages is 80,980 according to 2020 TURKSTAT data. Afşin-Elbistan Thermal Power Plant, the largest thermal power plant complex in Turkey, is located in Çoğulhan town of Afşin. This power plant is within Afşin district borders. However, the basins where the coals operated in the power plant are located are within the borders of Elbistan district.
It is claimed that the cave of Ashab-ı Kehf (Ashâb-ı Kehf), also known as the Seven Sleepers, is in the district.
Aşık Mahzuni Şerif (Şerif Çırık), Aşık Yener (Hacı Yener), Aşık Mahsudi (Osman Dağlı) Aşık Erfani (Serkan Açıkgöz) and poet Hayati Vasfi Taşyürek were born in this district.Afşin is a district of Kahramanmaraş province.
