Akhisar

Akhisar is a district of Manisa. With fourteen neighborhoods in the city center and ninety-six villages in the countryside, Akhisar has a population of 177,419, making it the most populous district of Manisa outside the provincial center and the one hundred and thirty-eighth most populous district in Turkey. Located on the Akhisar Plain in the Central Gediz Basin, the city borders Gölmarmara in the south, Saruhanlı in the southwest, Aliağa district of İzmir in the west, Sındırgı district of Balıkesir in the north, Kırkağaç and Soma in the northwest, and Gördes in the east. With an area of 1645 km², Akhisar is the district with the largest area in Manisa. The most important source of livelihood of the district is agriculture. Apart from agriculture, raw material-based industry and trade are other economic activities of the district. While 47% of the district's land is used as agricultural land, mostly olive and grape production is realized in these lands.
