Altındağ

Throughout history, Ankara was founded in the Altındağ region and became a residential area. That's why Altındağ is known as "Old Ankara". The history of Ankara consists of Altındağ, the city center. Its roots and history are considered identical to the history of Ankara Castle, dating back to the paleolithic ages. However, the most illuminating findings go no further than the Hittites. It is known that the Inner Castle section of Ankara Castle was open to settlement during the Hittite period, which coincided with 4000-1200 BC. After the Persian domination in 547 BC, Ankara was captured by the Galatians in 281 BC and turned into a castle city during this period. The location of Ankara Castle, the way it was built, and the characteristics of the stones used show that it was built by the Galatians. Ankara joined the Roman lands in 25 BC and became the capital of its region. In 10 BC, a temple was built in the name of Emperor Augustus where the Hacı Bayram Mosque is located. Also during this period, Emperor Augustus took the Greek city-states as an example and transformed Ankara into a free city consisting of 12 districts. Ankara remained under Byzantine rule until 1073, when the Roman Empire was divided into two in 395. In 1073, the city fell into the hands of the Turks; In 1143, Seljuk Sultan Rükneddin Mesud I, and in 1169, II. It is managed by Kılıç Arslan. The Sultan Alaeddin Mosque in the Inner Castle and the Arslanhane Mosque in the Samanpazarı district are important works that have survived from the Seljuk period. Ankara changed hands frequently in the 14th century; It came under the rule of the Ilkhanate, the Eretna Principality, the Ahis, and then the Ottomans, and in 1402 it became the scene of the famous Battle of Ankara. During the Ottoman period, in Ankara, which was first the center of the Great Anatolia State and then the sanjak center, sof making, tanning and shoe production developed considerably, and with the development of trade, many inns and covered bazaars were built. Ankara, which became the capital with the establishment of the Republic, reached its current appearance by building on its historical heritage. Since the years when it first became a settlement center, Ankara has been established in the Altındağ region with its castle, mosques, inns, baths and houses. The central district of Ankara province became a metropolitan district in 1953 and was named Altındağ. The first Turkish Grand National Assembly, where Turkey was established, is located within the borders of this district.
