Altınözü

Altınözü is a district in the southeast of Hatay, bordering Syria. It has 48 neighborhoods.

The soil is suitable for agriculture, the most intensive olive cultivation, tobacco, wheat, barley, pepper and various vegetables and fruits are grown. It is the district with the most intensive olive cultivation in Hatay. There is Yarseli Dam, an artificial pond used for irrigation.

In addition, with the completion of the Friendship Dam, which is under construction on the Asi River with the partnership of Turkey and Syria, floods in the winter months will be prevented and 10 thousand hectares of land will be irrigated. In addition to irrigation, the dam will be designed for fishing, recreation and water sports. In addition, the Altınözü Karbeyaz (Yiğityolu) border gate, which was previously located in the district, was active until approximately 1970. Due to some tensions between Turkey and Syria, the gate was closed and no attempt was made to open it.
