It is the hometown of artist Barış Akarsu. Akarsu dedicated his last tape, released in January 2007, to the people of Amasra. There is a Barış Akarsu statue in Amasra. The statue of Fatih Sultan Mehmed, who conquered Amasra, is also located in front of the Amasra Museum.
