Bağlar

Bağlar is one of the central districts of Diyarbakır province. Its population is approximately 400.000. It is the most populous district of Diyarbakır.

Previously a district, it was made the central district with a new law. The majority of the population is composed of children. Families living here usually have many children and many of them are immigrants.

Diyarbakır Bağlar Municipality was established together with the first tier municipalities of Sur and Yenişehir following the declaration of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality by the Council of Ministers Decree No. 93/5130 dated 21.12.1993. In the first period, there were 7 neighborhoods (Alipınar, Fatih, Kaynartepe, Körhat, Muradiye, Yeniköy, 5 Nisan) in the service area of Bağlar Municipality. Later, as a result of intensive migration, Bağcılar, Yunus Emre, Şeyh Şamil, Selahattin Eyyübi, Mevlana Halit neighborhoods were formed.

With the Law No. 5216 adopted on 10.07.2004, 21 villages (Ağaçgeçit, Batıçanakçı, Çiçekliyurt, Çiftlik, Develi, Gömmetaş, Kabahıdır, Kolludere, Körtepe, Özdemir, Sarıdallı, Topraktaş, Topyolu, Yeşildallı, Tellikaya, Uzunbahçe, Buçuktepe, Pınaroğlu, Yukarı Mollalı, Tavşantepe, Batıkarakoç) and 24 hamlets connected to these villages were transformed into neighborhoods and connected to Bağlar Municipality. Thus, Bağlar Municipality became a municipality obliged to provide services to 33 neighborhoods.
