Bahçesaray
In the 19th century it was named after the Crimean Tatar immigrants from Bahçesaray, Crimea.
It was a sub-district of Pervari district of Siirt until 1962, then it was connected to Gevaş district of Van. It became a district in 1987. Its former name was Müküs. There was a large Armenian population before 1915. Armenians were subjected to forced migration after the 1915 Law of Deportation. There are old churches such as Aparank Monastery in the district.
On 05.02.2020, there was an avalanche in the district and AFAD, Fire Brigade, JÖAK, village guards and volunteer units were sent to the region. While search and rescue activities were continuing, 42 people including gendarmerie, fire brigade, AFAD personnel and civilian citizens lost their lives in the second avalanche.
