Başmakçı

Başmakçı is a district of Afyonkarahisar Province. The known history of Başmakçı goes back to the Hittites, who ruled between 1750-1200 BC. After the Hittites, it remained in the hands of the Phrygians, who accepted Dinar as the capital for a certain period of time. After the Phrygians, the Lydians took possession of this region. It was conquered by the Persians in the 6th century BC and by the Macedonian Kingdom in the 4th century AD. After the death of Alexander the Great, with the division of the empire, the region remained in the hands of the Seleucids, and later on, the Kingdom of Pergamon, and after them the Roman Empire split into two, Başmakçı became a Byzantine territory. With the defeat of the Byzantines in the Battle of Manzikert by the Seljuk Sultan Alp Arslan in 1071, the gates of Anatolia were opened to the Oghuz tribes until the end. As a result of this, Turkish tribes dispersed to various parts of Anatolia and became their homeland. The Başmakçı community of Sarıkeçili Tribe entered Anatolia from the south of Azerbaijan. Their first stop on the migration route was Adana, Tarsus region. Some of them stayed in Tarsus, and they founded a village still known as Başmakçı. Some of the members of the congregation continued on their way to the north, while others continued their way to the west. Those who went to the north settled in the vicinity of Çorum, and the group that went to the west settled in the lands where we are now. Henceforth, the name of this settlement began to be known as Başmakçı.
