Bergama

Bergama is a district of Izmir province in Turkey. It is the largest district of Izmir in terms of area. The district is bordered by Aliağa in the south, Kınık and Yunusemre and Soma districts of Manisa province in the east, İvrindi, Burhaniye and Ayvalık districts of Balıkesir province in the north, Dikili in the west and the Aegean Sea in the southwest.

It is the most important district of Bakırçay basin in terms of agricultural activities, industry, trade, history and tourism. Bergama, which has monumental buildings from the Ionian, Hellenic, Roman and Byzantine periods, is considered one of the two representatives of cultural tourism in Izmir together with Selçuk district. The ancient city of Pergamon in the center of the district is important as the center of culture, science and art of the Hellenistic period. The most important vegetation is pistachio pine and cotton plant.
