Çifteler

Çifteler is a district of Eskişehir province.

It is the first centre of Çiftlikât-ı Hümayun[1] or Mahmudiye Çiftliği, which was established around 1815 on behalf of Sultan Mahmut. Later, the administrative centre was moved to the present Mahmudiye district. The district, which was known as Çifteler Village during the Republican period, became Çifteler district centre with the law dated 28 June 1954 and numbered 6821 enacted in 1954. Its surface area is 820 km2. The average altitude is 875 m. Summers are dry and hot, winters are cold and dry, spring and autumn are cool and rainy. In the district, 14.000 hectares of 61.850 hectares of agricultural land are irrigated agriculture and 47.580 hectares are dry agriculture. 1755 hectares are forested.
