Çukurca
Çukurca is a district of Hakkari province.
Çukurca is known as one of the first settlements of the Urartu Civilization. The Abbasids ruled this small settlement with a religious and political military chiefdom called "mir". During the Seljuk Dynasty, the district was attached to the Imadiye Principality. After the Seljuks, it was subject to the Hakkâri Principality during the Ottoman period. During World War I, the Russians and Nestorians destroyed Çukurca. Çukurca, which gained importance with the Mosul problem, was included in the territory of Turkey with the Ankara Treaty in 1926. It was made a district in 1953 with the law numbered 6068. Çukurca is the scene of frequent attacks and conflicts due to its close proximity to the Turkish-Iraqi border.
