Elbistan is a city that dates back to ancient times and was the capital of the Dulkadiroğlu Principality, the last principality to join the Ottoman Empire. The capital of the principality was moved to Maraş only in 1507 after Elbistan was completely burned in a war. However, the principality, which was ruled from Maraş for a short time, joined the Ottoman Empire in 1515 with the Battle of Turnadağ. Emine Hatun, the mother of the Ottoman Sultan Murat II, was the daughter of the Dulkadiroğlu Bey Nasıreddin Mehmed Bey. Today, it is known that there are ruins of the Beylik castle and palace around the old Seljuk Hamam near the bazaar.
