Emirdağ
Emirdağ is a district of Afyonkarahisar. Hittites, Lydians, Persians, Ancient Greeks, Romans and Byzantines ruled in the Emirdağ region. 13 km from the town center. away from Hisarköy, Amorium is the most important historical settlement in the district. The Amorian dynasty, one of the dynasties of the Byzantine Empire, was of Amorium origin. The ruins of the historical city, which was known as Aura in the ancient period and as Amorium in the Roman and Byzantine periods, are located 13 km from Emirdağ. Amorium was the Anatolic Theme of the Byzantine Empire and possibly the largest city in Anatolia in the 9th century, and was the target of Arab armies. Mu'tasim, the second son of Harun Reşit, took the city he besieged in 838 and had it destroyed. The city did not regain its former vitality after the withdrawal of the Arabs. One of the early examples of the Turks setting foot in Central Anatolia is the siege of Amorium. Because the mother of Caliph Mutasim was Turkish, his army was commanded by Turkish commanders and the majority consisted of Turkish military forces.
