Fındıklı
Fındıklı is a district of Rize province and the district center of the same name. Its surface area is 409 km²; district population 16,100, central population 10,776 (2012); The number of villages is 17. The name of the settlement, whose Laz name is Vitz, was first mentioned as Vizirikos Limni by the Byzantine Stephanus, and according to Özhan Öztürk, the name Viçe was taken from the Bidzers, one of the indigenous people of the Black Sea region, and the district of Of, which is the name of many families and villages in the region, Visir, Akçaabat Visera, Sürmene Vizera. It is even related to the words Vize in Thrace. According to the author, the common root of these words, including Viçe, is the word vis, which means village in the Thracian language. Similarly, Özhan Öztürk deciphered the word of the neighboring district Arhavi as Old village in the forum Arkha (Greek old) + viçe (village).
