Gömeç

Gömeç is a district of Balıkesir province on the Aegean Sea coast. Gömeç is the smallest district of Balıkesir with its area of 16.880 inhabitants, following Marmara, Balya and Savaştepe in the population ranking by districts.

It borders Burhaniye to the north and west, Edremit Gulf to the northwest, Ayvalık to the south and Bergama district of İzmir to the southeast.

The main source of income of the district, which is famous for its centuries-old plane trees and "Atatürk Rocks" with the silhouette of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, is olive and olive oil cultivation. In addition, yogurt made from sheep's milk with a jelly-like consistency is unique to the district.
