Gümüşova
Gümüşova is a district of Düzce province in the Western Black Sea region. The district is located on the D-100 Highway. The district is 18 km away from Düzce province and is adjacent to the Düzce plain. It is located in the southwest of Düzce. Its neighbors are Sakarya in the west, Bolu in the southwest, Çilimli district in the east and Cumayeri in the north. The Great Melen Stream passes through the east of the district. Among the villages of the district are Yakabasi, Selamlar, Çaybükü, Elmacık, Adaköy, Sarıdere, Sultaniye. Although the main sources of income of the district are based on agriculture, new factories have been opened in many areas and employment has been contributed after the province was included in the priority regions for development. Transportation to Duzce center is done by minibuses. Gümüşova district was conquered together with Düzce and Üskübü by Osman Bey's comrade Konuralp Gazi in 1321. This region began to be used as a settlement since the reign of Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror. Later, this region was given as a "fief" by Fatih Sultan Mehmet to Davut Pasha, who showed great military benefits. It was named Kışla because the barns where the animals of the Ottoman Empire army would winter were built in Gümüşova. During the First World War, the Barracks was occupied. The Düzce Rebellions, which took place during the War of Independence, had their impact mostly in this region. Later, these rebellions were prevented by Ali Fuat Cebesoy and Marshal Fevzi Çakmak. Kışla gained the title of township in 1927. Municipal organization was established in 1963. Kışla was merged with Cumayeri in 1987 and was named Cumaova district. It was separated from Cumayeri in 1991 and became a new and independent district under the name Gümüşova. Gümüşova was connected to Düzce as Düzce became a province in December 1999. The surface area of Gümüşova district is 9,000 hectares and the altitude is 128 meters. A typical Black Sea climate prevails in the district. Summers are hot and rainy, winters are cool and rainy. The fog rate is high in autumn and spring. The region is rich in vegetation. During the periods when hunting is allowed, fishing is done in the Melen Stream passing through the district. The district has plant tissue unique to the Black Sea climate, such as hazelnuts, beech and walnuts. Hazelnuts are grown in most of the villages in Düzce, which is rich in hazelnuts. The district's external migration is low. There is internal migration from the villages of the district to the centre.
