Güzelyurt

Güzelyurt is a district of Aksaray. It is 45 km from Aksaray center and 15 km from Ihlara Valley. away. Its old name is Gelveri. The word "Gelveri" is a combination of the Greek words "beautiful" and "water". Gregor of Nenzi, one of the great saints of the Orthodox sect who worked to spread Christianity, made Guzelyurt an important center. Greeks living in Güzelyurt were settled in Nea Karvali town of Kavala city in Greece during the Turkey-Greece population exchange, and Turks living in Thessaloniki were settled in Güzelyurt. In addition, the district has also received immigration from Niğde. A monastery used as a hotel in the town center, a large Orthodox church in the neighborhood in the pit, a stone-paved road a little higher and cave churches around it can be seen.
