It is surrounded by Avanos in the east, Mucur in the west, Gülşehir in the south, and Kozaklı districts in the north. Hacı Bektaş-i Velî established a science center here and spread his thoughts; After his death, the name of the village was changed to Hacıbektaş in honor of his name and memory. Hacıbektaş became a sub-district center of Niğde in 1541, and a municipal organization was established in 1854 and became a town. Later, on 1.1.1948, it became a district of Kırşehir province. With Nevşehir becoming a province on 24.7.1954, Hacıbektaş district was connected to Nevşehir.
