Hilvan

Hilvan is a district of Şanlıurfa province.

In 1800, with the arrival of 5 families of relatives who migrated from Sivas Gürün in Sivas Gürün, they migrated from Uluyazı village and settled in Karacürün, which was in ruins. As a result of the mutual settlement law, the Turks here were settled in Haymana and the Kurds were settled in this region. The settlement was named Karacürün because of the Karadibek stone in the village square at the time of the tribe. Later, it grew with the fusion of other tribes coming from the surrounding area.

Karacürün was connected to Uluyazı sub-district of Siverek district. The fact that Karacürün developed more than Uluyazı sub-district due to its location caused the sub-district and villages to be connected to it. In 1926, it was connected to Şanlıurfa province as a district center and named Hilvan. Hilvan takes its name from the village 5 km away from Gölcük road, which is still called Hilvan, but is now known as Balkı. There are many historical ruins and ruins dating back to ancient civilizations in the village of Balkı.
