Hizan
The first settlements in the region started with the Urartians in the 1000s BC. Later, it remained under the rule of Persian, Roman, Byzantine and Arab states; It was included in the borders of the Seljuks in the 11th century and the Ottomans in the early 16th century. Hizan, which was turned into a subdistrict in 1929, was made a district on March 16, 1936 and connected to Bitlis province. The district is located in a steep region in the south of Bitlis province and Lake Van. 90% of its territory is mountainous and there are no important rivers other than small streams. In the district, where a typical continental climate prevails, the average highest temperature in summer is around 25 degrees, and the average lowest temperature in winter is around -15 degrees. Although there is more forest in Bitlis central district and other districts, it is less compared to the forest areas throughout the country.
