İkizdere

İkizdere is a district of Rize province. During the Ottoman period, it became a township in 1878, when Rize became the sanjak center. İkizdere, formerly known as Kura-i Seba, meaning "Seven Villages", was a town center in the Rize district in the Lazistan sanjak of the Trabzon province in the late 19th century. The region, which was occupied by the Russians on February 15, 1916, was liberated from the occupation on March 11, 1918. The settlement, which was named İkizdere in 1933, was the sub-district center of Güneyce, which became a district in 1945, and the district center was moved to İkizdere in 1952.
