Kaynarca
Kaynarca district is located in the eastern extension of the Kocaeli peninsula, between the Sakarya Valley and the Black Sea Region. The history of this region begins with the Kingdom of Bithynia. After 307-304 BC, it dates back to the Pontic Kingdom, Roman and Byzantine rule. In 1299, Osman Gazi, who founded the Ottoman Principality around Söğüt, gave the task of the region up to the Black Sea Region to Akça Koca and Konur Alp Beys to join the Ottoman Principality. Akçakoca Bey completely annexed this region to the Ottoman Principality between 1308-1371.
It is understood from the land registry records dated 1288-1827 that the village, which was called Hoca Köy, was later named Şeyhler and became a sub-district. As a result of a great fire in 1899, the government offices were moved first to the village of Şeyh Tımarı (1889-1909) and then to Kavacık Çorlar Village (1909-1917). Şeyhler, which was reorganized as a sub-district in 1917, was occupied by the Greeks on March 25, 1920 and recaptured on April 16, 1921. It was occupied for the 2nd time on April 30, 1921 and liberated by Turkish forces on May 3, 1921. In 1922, it suffered a major fire for the second time and was transferred to Topçu (Büyükkaynarca) Village between 1922-1925. Şeyhler, which was first connected to Kocaeli, was connected to Kandıra in 1868 when it became a district of Kandıra. Until April 1, 1959, it remained as a sub-district of Kandıra. On April 1, 1959, according to the law numbered 7033, it became a district under the name of Kaynarca and was connected to Sakarya province with the law dated January 21, 1966 and numbered 714.
