Korgan

Korgan is a district of Ordu province in the Black Sea Region of Turkey. The first dominant people of the region are Halip (Kalip), Kolk and Kokur. Kalips were related to iron mines in their strongest ages. The presence of iron slag and traces of processed mineral deposits in the area within the borders of Tatarcık Village in Korgan, which is today called the mineral forest, and in some plateaus of Korgan, especially around Yalman, shows that the Kalip people lived in these places in the 12th century BC. It is also known that the Persians lived in the Korgan region in 584-555 BC. [citation needed] During the Persian period, Darius I (522-485 BC) divided these lands into satrapies in order to manage them, and "Pontus Cappadocia" was one of the four first-degree satrapies in Korgan. He was taking in his lands. In 331 BC, the Persian Empire was wiped out from the stage of history by the armies of Alexander the Great. After the rule of the Kingdom of Pontus and Rome, the armies of Danışmend Gazi entered the lands of Korgan and captured them in 1083. Many communities from the Oghuz Tribes who came to Anatolia settled in the Korgan region. The plateau lands of Ordu Province and the areas surrounding Korgan and Kumru District centers were made settlement areas entirely by the Turkmens, and the people living there were soon absorbed into the Oghuz Tribes. In fact, since they were in the minority, they had no power left and lost their weight. II. During the reign of Kılıçarslan, Korgan and its surroundings came under the rule of the Anatolian Seljuks. (1178) After the Battle of Kösedağ (1243), a large part of Korgan lands came under the rule of Kadı Burhaneddin. In the 1380s, the Hacı Emiroğulları Principality ruled this region. Yıldırım Beyazıt included Ordu and Samsun in the Ottoman Empire in 1398. The region, which came under Ottoman rule, is referred to as "Keşdere" in official records. Keşdere is the name given to a branch of the Bolaman River. Keşdere, which was connected to the Satırtı district (Fatsa) until 1642, became a district on this date. In 1856, it was connected to Liva–i Canik (Canik Sanjak). At this date, its administration is the same as Akçay, Terme and Cevizderesi. It was a district affiliated to Canik Sanjak in 1860-65 and to Ünye Sanjak in 1866-71. In 1882, it became a sub-district center of Fatsa district and became a village in 1928. After continuing its existence as a sub-district of Fatsa for years, Korgan became a municipality on 1 June 1958 and a district center on 1 April 1960.
