Köse

Köse is a district of Gümüşhane province. It is surrounded by Kelkit, Gümüşhane center and Bayburt. In the census record made by the Ottoman Empire in 1530, the settlement is seen as the village of the Kelkit township of the Bayburt sanjak, as it is known today. In the 1835 census, only the male population was counted, and accordingly, 154 men lived in 60 households in the settlement with village status. According to the 1876 census, 233 people lived in 72 households in the settlement with village status. The settlement, which was captured by the Russians in 1916, was liberated from occupation on 17 February 1918, with the withdrawal of the Russians after the Erzincan Armistice signed on 15 December 1917. The settlement, which was seen as a township of the Kelkit district in 1918, became a sub-district center of the Kelkit district after Gümüşhane was made a province in the Republican period (1924). Köse became a town municipality on 22 February 1954, and a district on 19 June 1987 with Law No. 3392.
