Kürtün
Kürtün is a district of Gümüşhane province where the typical Black Sea climate and culture is preserved. The population of the district center is 5,285. Its population, including its villages, is 12,792. It became a district in 1990. The word Kürtün is a general word used by the Black Sea (Çepni Turks) to describe places in the mountainous regions with water flowing through them. It refers to a geographical concept. It means "V type valley" split by water. The origin of the word Kürtün is Turkish, and it was written as or during the Ottoman period. According to the Turkish Language Association, the meaning of the name Kurdish is; It is referred to as "a pile of snow collected by the wind in secluded places" and "a saddle or saddle worn on pack animals". In another source, it is written that Kürtün was one of the Turkmen Tribes from Danişment.
