Melikgazi
Melikgazi is one of the central districts of Kayseri province.
With nearly 600.000 inhabitants, it is the largest district of Kayseri. It is the centre of the city where important cultural, industrial and commercial activities have taken place throughout history. It covers the area up to the slopes of Erciyes where modern construction is located.
The Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan was born in the village of Ağırnas in Kayseri, which is now the Ağırnas neighbourhood of Melikgazi.
In Melikgazi, there is the castle of the city built during the Byzantine period and expanded by the Seljuks, the Seljuk Hatun Complex dating from the 13th century, mosques, madrasahs and baths, a clock tower and an underground city.
