Mesudiye

Mesudiye is a district of Ordu province on the border with Sivas. A significant part of the local population consists of Turkmen/Chepni. It is the largest district of Ordu province by surface area. Mesudiye is a settlement with a very old history. The history of the district dates back to the Hittite period. There are many rock tombs. In 1963-1964, Professor İ. Therefore, the dominance of Hittites and Phrygians is also seen in the region. It was annexed to the Ottoman lands during the reign of Mehmet the Conqueror and the district entered the Ottoman records in 1455. Until this date, the region was within the territory of the Trebizond Empire. According to these census records, Mesudiye had more than a hundred villages and many hamlets at that time. The pre-Ottoman region was the home of the Hittites, Cimmerians, Medes, Persians, Alexander the Great, the Kingdom of Pontus, the Roman Empire, the Eastern Roman Empire, the Danishmendians, the Empire of Trebizond, the Anatolian Seljuks, the Ilkhanate, the Eretna Principality, the Kadi Burhanettin State. and remained under the sovereignty of the Hacıemiroğlu Principality. Mesudiye region was called Milas as a township during the Ottoman period. According to records, in 1530, Milas was a township of Ordu province, Canik Sanjak of the Greek Province. In 1846, Trabzon Province became a district of Karahisar-ı Şarkî province. The district center was taken from Parçı village and transferred to today's Mesudiye, which was used as a marketplace after 1863, in 1876. The name Milas was changed to Hamidiye on 20 November 1876, with the petition written by the people in the region to the sultan. In 1910, the name Hamidiye was changed to Mesudiye. The municipal organization was established in 1899 and Aliçavuşoğlu Mustafa Bey became the first mayor. With the law numbered 2197 dated 27 May 1933, Mesudiye District was taken from Şebinkarahisar and connected to Ordu province.
