Mudanya
The history of the district dates back to the 7th century BC. It is known that its first name was Myrlea. One of the 12 Ionian city states, Gemlik and Erdek was founded by the Colophonians. The city, which was occupied from time to time, was destroyed by the Macedonian ruler Philip V (Philippos) and a new city was built in its place under the name of Apameia. This city was also occupied and zoned and named Montania. It is believed that the name Mudanya came from here.
Mudanya was conquered by Orhan Bey in 1321 and joined the Ottoman lands.
The agreement that ended the Turkish War of Independence was signed in Mudanya as a result of the conference held between October 3-11, 1922 and was named the Mudanya Armistice.
