Patnos

Patnos is a district of Ağrı province. The distance to Ağrı city center is 82 km. The fact that it was established at the junction of Ağrı-Van, Ağrı-Muş, Ağrı-Bitlis roads caused its rapid development. It is the largest district of Ağrı in terms of population density. Its name during the Urartian period was Aladri. Badişan stream, a branch of the Murat river, passes through the district center. The district was established at the eastern end of the Patnos plain, which is 20 km wide and 20 km long. There are elevations around it, one of which is a volcano and the other two are mountain ranges. There is Süphan Mountain, an extinct volcano, in the south and its height is 4058 meters. The other two mountain ranges are the Aladağlar in the east and the Top mountains in the west. Anzavur hill in the district is one of the important protected areas (Urartu) but is closed to visitors (Military Region). It takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes to travel from the district to the surrounding four provinces (Van-Ağrı-Bitlis-Muş).
