Perşembe
Perşembe is a district of Ordu province and the central town of this district. It is located on the Vona Peninsula. It is among the few quietest cities in the world. The old name of Perşembe district is Vona. As a matter of fact, on an Ottoman map of 1914, the cape and port on the peninsula are named Vona. The settlement that formed the core of today's Perşembe town was named Babalı. Perşembe remained under Roman and Byzantine rule for a long time. After Fatih Sultan Mehmet eliminated the Trebizond Empire in 1461, Vona came under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. When the Ottoman Empire switched from the state system to the province system, Trabzon Province was established in 1867. Perşembe , named "Perşenbe", was a sub-district of the Ordu district of the Trabzon sanjak of this province. In the Ottoman village list dated 1928, Perşembe was one of the sub-districts of the central district of Ordu province under the name "Perşenbe" and included 36 villages. The center of this township was Babalı village. In the 1940 general census, the population of Perşembe township, which included 33 villages, consisted of 23,937 people. In Babalı village, the town center, 1,705 people lived. Perşembe , which became a district on June 25, 1945, consisted of 34 villages connected only to the central subdistrict. The fact that the name of Babalı village was not mentioned in the 1950 general census shows that the name of this settlement was changed to Perşembe . On this date, the population of the town of Çarşamba consisted of 2,182 people. In the 1965 census, the population of the Perşembe district consisted of 37,053 people and 12,428 people among this population were literate. In Perşembe town, 4,390 people lived and 2,666 people were literate. Jason Church, located on Yason Cape, is one of the most important historical buildings in Perşembe district. Hoynat Island, which was used as a warehouse and shelter by sailors in ancient times, is also within the borders of Perşembe district. It was established at the foot of Kordon Hill in the Vona Natural Harbor Bay on the Ordu-Samsun old state highway. It is bordered by the Black Sea in the north, Ordu in the east, Fatsa in the west, and Ordu-Ulubey and Fatsa Districts in the south. It is 13 km away from the City Center.
