Susuz
Susuz, a district of Kars province, has made a name for itself with the Cilavuz Village Institute established here. At that time, it became the educational and cultural center of the province and neighboring districts. Ümit Kaftancıoğlu, who is also a graduate of Cilavuz (Susuz) Village Institute, tells about his experiences at Cilavuz Village Institute in his story book "Dönemeç". After the proclamation of the Republic, Susuz, which was a sub-district of the central district of Kars province, was made a district in 1959. One of the first sub-district managers of the district is the father of writer Server Tanilli. In fact, there is a stream passing through the center of the district and there are also fountains. When the people of the district came from the Caucasus, they settled in the Ruins area above the cemetery, where there was no water, and had to get water from the district center. For this reason, the name of the district was changed to Susuz. The people settled in the district center when the Malakans (White Russians) migrated. Contrary to its name, Susuz District is famous for its green and wet meadows. During the research conducted in the Cılavuzdere region, ruins thought to belong to the Lower Paleolithic Age were found. This shows that the region is a very old settlement. Its history is the same as Kars. The Kars region came under Urartian rule in the 9th century BC. Urartian King II. Sardur captured the lands west of Lake Sevan in the 8th century BC, then the Cimmerians and Scythians invaded the region, and the Medes ended the Urartu domination in 560 BC. In some dates, they mention that the Armeniai Kingdom and Principalities dominated here, starting from the 6th century BC. The main principalities of these principalities, which served as Satraps under Persian rule, were the Orontes Dynasty (400-200 BC) and the Artaksias Dynasty (200 BC). Romans II from the Artaksias dynasty. They defeated Tigran and captured the region. The region, which was the Araxes province of Rome, constantly changed hands between the Romans and the Parthians. This region later caused conflict between the Sassanids and the Byzantines. Arab raids reached here in the 7th century, and Arabs dominated here until the 9th century. A branch of the Bagratli Dynasty, one of the Armenian governments established under the control of the Arabs, ruled in Ani and Kars. The Byzantines captured the region in 1045. Seljuk raids started in the mid-11th century. The Seljuk ruler Alpaslan dominated the region in 1064, and the Ani-Şeddad Government, affiliated with the Seljuks, was established, with Ani as its center. After its conquest by Sultan Alparslan in 1064, Kars and its surroundings began to be administered by principalities affiliated with the Seljuks. 1071 Manzikert After the Battle of Manzikert, Seljuk Sultan Alp Arslan gave Kars, along with Erzurum, Erzincan, Tercan and Pasinler, to one of his commanders Kasım Bey.
